“Starthilfe” and the RACE project

In a motorcycle race, a team of youths was able to stay ahead of the adult professionals. And not only that: no one really would have actually thought it possible, since these boys and girls had bad grades in school and dropped out of their apprenticeships. The “Starthilfe” project in Fürstenfeldbruck gives them the chance to show what they are capable of. This they have done with great success, and – as it turns out – not only in the “RACE Project”: after ten months of learning and cooperation, 100 percent of the youths found an apprenticeship or a job.

Busch Family Foundation

This foundation, established several years ago by the Busch family, is committed to helping youths from more fragile regions to find apprenticeships, for example in monument preservation, in close cooperation with Germany’s Foundation for the Protection of Monuments.

Advent calendar for good deeds of the Süddeutsche Zeitung

When the newspaper ‘Süddeutsche Zeitung’ first appealed to its readers at the turn of the year 1948/49 to help the homeless and starving, as well as refugees, a sum of 1,281 German Marks was raised.

The relief action got its name on December 1, 1950, when Bernhard Pollack, editor-in-chief of the local newsroom, wrote: “Starting today, we will report daily on a particularly distressing situation within the city walls of Munich. Perhaps the result will be an advent calendar with windows illuminated by good deeds.”

The 62nd relief action of the “Advent calendar for good deeds of the Süddeutsche Zeitung” has raised nearly five million euros since last autumn. The money directly benefits people and families in need as well as social projects throughout the entire Munich region.
