Cardan shafts are used to compensate for parallel misalignment (vertical / horizontal) between the driving and driven shafts.
However, they cannot absorb angular misalignment between the shafts. Angular misalignm ent typically results in increased vibrations, which may cause the driven shaft to rotate unevenly during operation.

Measurement with cardan shaft in place
Alignment with cardan shafts is now a fast and clean job that eliminates logistical nightmares. The ROTALIGN Ultra sensor is mounted on both shafts using special brackets, without the need to remove the shaft. The measurement is taken while the entire machine train is rotated manually. With the use of a special bracketing system, measurement is also possible in case of a limited shaft rotational axis.

When cardan shafts can not be rotated, use our cardan shaft brackets to position the rotating axis of the stationary machine at the same level as the motor drive shaft. The angularity of the two shafts can then be determined with a regular multi-point measurement.
